'Bus Station Cafe Style Garden'

'Design & Build'

'Following successful completion of two projects by Andy & Lou of Haven Spaces, when the opportunity arose to vitalise the back garden, following re-building & drainage work, it was natural to call them again.  The transformation has been breathtaking!  Using the best of the plants and shrubs that were established with the addition of an imaginative patio, raised beds and path; all well framed, which has combined to make a truly memorable result!'

Maintaining the 'Vintage Bus' theme from the front garden and into Ian's kitchen we wanted to continue this from the new conservatory and into the new outdoor space (if you want to see the 'Bus Stop' garden design, scroll down and for the 'kitchen' see the 'Interior Spaces' page).

A 'cafe style' garden reminiscent of the 60's style bus stations & diners to create a space for socialising, relaxing with a sophisticated and classic style, combining a mediterranean feel of planting (to incorporate existing plants), with the classic curves of 'The Harrington' bus, which influenced many of the shapes in this design.

The existing apple trees have taken on a new life of their own, with the silhouette on the new fence and the aged honeysuckle after its reshaping now hugs a new wrought iron vintage arch.  Ian loved the curved pergola that was installed in Phase 1, as it reminded him of the old bus depot in Bournemouth.

The raised sleeper bed, which was part of Phase 1 of the build.  The 3 bay trees & 'Little Red Robin' will be surrounded by colourful blooms in spring & summer of white & purple alliums and orange/yellow iris with its front display of alternate lavender & santolina.  Although looking sparse at the moment, a thoughtful array of new plants lay in wait to burst into life! (see Planting Pallet below).

The cobble path has subtle tints of mustard, greys and terracottas, which will compliment the accent of mustard in the mosaic tiles (later to be added around the cafe/bar area above the green shelving).  The round wrought iron mirror specially selected as it mimics a bus drivers view mirror & draws your attention down the garden.  The planting border is neatly contained with a galvanised edge; on the right side emphasising the 'bus bullnose' shape and the box hedging in the left curved border will nestle against it.

Stepping stones lead to a new compact rotary washing line and the shed will be replaced and painted a vintage green shade to tie in with the cafe/bar shelf at the other end of the garden...

This is the view that welcomes you as you walk up the side passage of the house, sadly Niles will not be welcoming every visitor to this bus vintage themed garden!

'Room with a view' - on a cold day from inside the conservatory Ian can now enjoy his new garden and look forward to spending more time in this beautiful outdoor space with spring approaching as new plants start to bloom and a lovely 'birds eye view' from his bedroom to wake up to!  We will return to take pictures in the height of the season, so watch this space!
